of the VIII International Catholic Festival of Christian Documentary
Films and TV Programs MAGNIFICAT '2012

Status and purposes

The International Catholic Festival of Christian Films and TV programs screens the works of Belarusian masters in cinema and TV aimed at evangelization of the society and support of human values, created in various Christian traditions.

Documentary films and TV programs, as well as animated films made at all film-producing studios and TV channels from Belarus and abroad are eligible to enter the Festival contest.

Time and Place

The Festival takes place in Belarus annually.

The Festival is organized at the territory of the Minsk and Hlybokaye deanery, Vitebsk diocese (region).

In case of need, some screenings and events may be done in other districts.

Patronage and Organization

The Festival is held under patronage of the Bishops Conference in Belarus.

Festival Founder-Members

• Catholic Association for Communication SIGNIS-BELARUS

• Vitebsk diocese

• The DIALOGUE culture and religion magazine editorial board

• Private and Unitary Enterprise STOSHOT STUDIO

Festival Founder-Members appoint an Organizational Committee, and the latter elects the Chairman.

Chairman exercises the function of festival management.

Organizational committee, headed by the Chairman, consists of professionals, everyone responsible for his/her own task necessary for preparation and holding the festival.

Organizational committee appoints the Festival direction and its Director.

Festival direction performs all the work of preparation, organization and holding of the Festival.

Festival director performs his/her functions both during the festival and between the festivals.

Organizational committee sets the Festival Jury and invites clergymen as well as secular creative persons there.

Participants and Submission of Works

Festival is open to participants belonging to various Christian confessions and is formed of:

• film and TV program makers taking part in competition, as well as of studio representatives
(the number of those representing every studio is defined by the Organizational committee);

• creative workers and clergy persons not submitting the works but invited by the Organization
committee.

All participants are supported by the Festival direction (except payment of fares).

Selection is open for films and programs by all the studios from Belarus and abroad.

Organizational committee divides the works into two groups: for competition and information programs.

Selection for the competition and informational programs is done by the Selection committee appointed by the Organization committee.

Films are to be selected and participants informed during the period
from May 1 till June 15, 2012 (2012/05/1 - 2012/06/15).

Festival Awards

There are two groups of awards, both are oriented on a wide range of merits.

Prizes of Jury:

On viewing all the films presented in the competition program, Jury gives its awards:

•Grand Prix of the Festival - the main award

• Prize for the best documentary

• Prize for the best TV program

Jury has the right to award participants with diplomas for great professional merits of theirs or of their works.

Special Prizes:

• Prize of the Catholic Association for Communication SIGNIS-BELARUS,

• Prize of the St. Francisc congregation

• Prize of the NIEPOKALANOW festival (Poland)

• Prize of the Glybokaye district executive committee

Film Copies and Deadlines

Films and TV programs for selection are to be sent in DVD (Video CD) - 3 copies. Extra written documents may be e-mailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or mailed on a floppy disc or CD (DVD) Data (look for the address in the Entry Form section).

Preliminary cassettes and documents will be left at the Festival’s archives and may be used for non-commercial viewing. The Organizing Committee puts information about the competition works in the festival CATALOGUE online and in print.

During the filling ENTRY FORM You have the right to authorize or prohibit the use of an excerpt of your film or program in the CATALOGUE and on the CHANNEL of Festival.

(max. of 10 min., but not more than 30% of the length of the competitive work)

Every work is to be enclosed with a personal ENTRY FORM. The maximum duration of a Documentary (TV Program) should be no more than 52 min.
All English language works selected for screening MUST have dialogues list.
All non-English language works selected for screening MUST have English subtitles and dialogues list.

The Festival will take place in MINSK, Udziela and Hlybokaye (Vitebsk region) on
September 9-13, 2012 (2012/09/9-13).
